Career History

Network Administrator

European Commission - Oficina de Armonización del Mercado Interior, Alicante,

Spain, (September 2001 - Present)

·      Responsible for all aspects of the data and voice networks for an EU agency known as the OHIM(1000 users) which handles trademarks and design patents for the whole of Europe.

·         Network Tasks. Daily tasks include network monitoring, network troubleshooting and router and switch configuration. I am also responsible for all network documentation, which includes designs, proposals, network reports, call-for-tenders and procedures.

·         Security Tasks. Daily tasks include managing the Checkpoint firewall policy editor and configuring acls on the various routers. On a less frequent basis, I am also responsible for documenting the security policy for the network and installing firewall software when appropriate.

·         Technologies include: ATM,Ethernet, Frame Relay, E1/E3 WAN links, IP, EIGRP, IPSec, VPN, VoIP, H323, QoS, ATM LANE, VLANs, ELANs, ISDN, DDR, ADSL, WLAN, 802.11a/b/g, DHS, DHCP Cisco, Enterasys, Checkpoint, Cabletron, Spectrum, Ethereal, Solaris,  Windows XP and NT.

·    Achievements

·         Mar 2002. Wrote technical proposal for implementing secure teleworking over private DSL networks

·         Aug 2002. Wrote design document for implementing VLANs over ATM ELANs in order to permit QoS and IP Telephony

·         Jun 2003. Installed and configured Checkpoint NG firewall on Sun Solaris server.

·      Dec 2003. Set up and documented the Checkpoint SecureClient VPN solution for travelling users and small offices.

·      May 2004 Implemented Dialler callback on Cisco NAS and Radius Servers on Microsoft IIS.

Network Design Engineer

ABN AMRO, Amsterdam, The Netherlands, (June 2001- September 2001)

·      Contracted to work as part of the Global Access Network Design team in a world-wide migration project which involved installing new hardware (Juniper M20 and Cisco 7200s) in the core and distribution layers of the network.

·    Achievements

·      August 2001, Authored the hardware section of the overall global architecture design document

Network Operations Supervisor

KPNQwest, The Hague, The Netherlands, (January 2001- May 2001)

·      Managed a 24x7 Operations group consisting of engineers. Involved in running the backbone network of a major ISP. This network was powered by both Cisco and Juniper equipment and apart from typical ISP network technologies such as IP, BGP,DNS and IS-IS , services such as VoIP and IP VPN (using IP Seculink) were also supported.

·      Another major part of the role included evaluating, implementing and training for new products. This would involve setting up the platform using protocols such as SNMP so that it could monitored 24x7 monitoring of HP Openview

·    Achievements

·      April 2001.Designed and implemented an autonomous and secure LAN environment for the Operations team, within the corporate set-up

·      May 2001. Wrote and implemented the NOC Engineers handbook, which covered all the internal and external functions of the department.

IP Project Engineer

KPNQwest, The Hague, The Netherlands, (August 2000- January 2001)

·      Technical Responsibilities: To implement and design networking solutions for the corporate VPN network. This involved building and administering new office networks as well as facilitating new services on a secure pan-European network. Most of the work was completed on multi-layer switches (Cisco catalysts), routers and Nokia/Checkpoint Firewalls.

·         Additional Responsibilities: I was charged with documenting design proposals, liaising with other groups (systems, marketing and branch offices), and project management.

·      Achievements

·      Aug’2000. Completed the LAN infrastructure for the DSL Operations centre in Germany, allowing the centre to poll remote sites over a secure ATM network

·      Dec’2000. Implemented IP Multicast on the corporate network, using tunnelling and PIM-sparse mode to span office firewalls

·      Jan’2001. Implemented a VoIP VLAN for a virtual call centre in Vienna, using Cisco IP Telephony technology.

 

 

 

 

 

Network Operations Shift Supervisor

UUNET(Worldcom),Amsterdam, The Netherlands, (August 1998- August 2000)

·      Onsite Shift Manager at a 24x7 Operations Centre responsible for monitoring and troubleshooting the European (EMEA) section of one of the world's largest ISP's backbone Network. The network was vast with carrier bandwidths ranging from channelised  E1 up to STM-16/OC48 for transatlantic connectivity. Consequently a wide range of equipment was monitored and this would include routers (Cisco 75xx, Cabletron, and Juniper M40s) as well as switches (Fore ASXs' ) and multiplexers (mainly Larscom). Protocols most commonly used were IP and IS-IS, BGPv4. MPLS, ATM and Frame Relay were also used.

·      Achievements

·      Sep’1999. . Helped design beginner training courses for BGP and Remedy ARS.

 

Network Applications Team Leader

IBM , Zoetermeer, The Netherlands, (August 1996- August 1998)

·      Responsibilities Lead a group of nine Customer Care technicians who gave support for Mail, Web Server,and EDI applications on a pan-European multi-potocol network

·      Achievements

·      Sep’1996. Set up first interactive web-based tool for use on the 24x7 Customer Care Helpdesk.

 

Internet Consultant

Co-operativa Santa Maria, Lima, Peru, (February 1996- June 1996)

·      Responsibilities Responsible for setting up web pages to market Alpaca wool products. Gained experience in HTTP, Marketing a web-site on search engines, HTML and Java script language.

·      Achievements

·      The publicised web-page helped increase sales and customer base especially in North America

 

 

 

 

 

Internet Support Representative

IBM, Dublin, Ireland, (May 1995- February 1996)

·      Part of the EMEA Internet project Office set up to co-ordinate projects for IBM organisations throughout the EMEA region.

·      Achievements

Sep’1995. I coordinated the launch of the IGN Internet Dialer throughout Europe. I was involved in everything, from the customisation of the software, to the logistics of manufacture and distribution.
